Between 2024 and 2025, the Coca-Cola HBC Foundation awarded two grants, with a total value of over €400,000, to Habitat for Humanity for the reconstruction of communities in the counties of Galați and Suceava affected by flooding. Coca-Cola HBC Romania intervened immediately after the events with over 51,000 liters of Dorna water and soft drinks.

The initiative is part of the Coca-Cola HBC Foundation's commitment to intervene in vulnerable communities during times of crisis, and is part of the Coca-Cola HBC group's long-term vision to generate added value in the communities in which it operates. At the heart of this vision is sustainability and support for communities, with the Foundation playing an active role in providing the necessary assistance where it is most needed.

"From the very beginning, we have stood by the communities in Galați that were affected by last autumn's floods, immediately providing drinking water to families in the area and investing over €200,000 in building community resilience, with the support of the Coca-Cola HBC Foundation. The results show us once again that when we work at the grassroots level with trusted partners such as Habitat for Humanity, we can build a safer future for all of us, especially for those who are vulnerable. That is why, in 2025, we have chosen to continue this partnership and support the flood-affected community in Broșteni with a new grant of over €200,000. This area is of strategic importance to us, as we have been present in Suceava County through our factory in Poiana Negrii (Dorna Candrenilor) for over 20 years. We continue to stand by communities across the country and intervene immediately or in the long term whenever needed," says Alice Nichita, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Director, Coca-Cola HBC Romania.

Stage 1: Grant of over €200,000 for Galați County, severely affected by the floods in September 2024

In September 2024, the Coca-Cola HBC Foundation is providing a grant of over €200,000 for the project "Together we rebuild hope," to rehabilitate homes after severe flooding. Coca-Cola HBC Romania also donated over 44,000 liters of Dorna mineral water and soft drinks to families left without drinking water.

In September 2025, Habitat for Humanity successfully completed the work, with interventions in three areas: temporary assistance and early recovery, reconstruction, and resilience:

  • 3 families received support for short-term housing rentals;
  • 10 families received assistance through vouchers for home repairs;
  • 12 households benefited from direct repairs and structural reinforcement work;
  • 24 local builders participated in the "Craftsmen in Action" course to learn sustainable reconstruction techniques;
  • PASSA (Participatory Approach to Safe Shelter Awareness) facilitators participated in another course, with the activity concluding with community information and engagement sessions;
  • Based on the results of these sessions, a call for projects (micro-grants) worth €40,000 will be launched, aimed at implementing concrete solutions to prevent and reduce the effects of natural disasters. The call is addressed to local stakeholders (public authorities, DSU, local NGOs, and members of affected communities).

"I stood and watched from the attic as the water rose. Nothing was left. A lifetime's investment was gone before our eyes. Knowing what we left in the yard and what we found after the floods, rebuilding our house was the change we needed at a turning point." The Neagu family, Cuza Vodă, Galați County, Build Back Better beneficiary.

The Neagu family is among the 600 beneficiaries of the Build Back Better strategy, which prioritizes sustainable reconstruction and community resilience.

"We are delighted with the impact we have had in the affected communities in Galați County, where we have been able to provide real support to families in need. Through our interventions, we have contributed to rebuilding homes and restoring a sense of security among those most affected." Roberto Pătrășcoiu, National Director of Habitat for Humanity Romania.

Stage 2: A new grant of over €200,000 to rebuild the community in Broșteni, Galați County

Starting in September 2025, the Coca-Cola HBC Foundation is expanding its partnership with Habitat for Humanity in Broșteni, Suceava County—an area severely affected by the July floods. Once again, Coca-Cola HBC Romania responded immediately, donating 7,500 liters of Dorna water to the affected communities.

Over 2,500 people were affected and more than 800 homes were damaged, 40 of which were completely destroyed and beyond repair. The project, which will last one year (2025-2026), will focus on early recovery, reconstruction, and resilience for 878 locals, who will receive support as follows:

  • 145 people will receive kits for home repairs and cleaning (assistance through vouchers) and short-term rent support;
  • 238 residents are supported through direct repairs and reinforcement work, construction materials, and assistance;
  • 495 people participate in training activities.

In the long term, this initiative strengthens social cohesion, builds resilience, and prepares communities for future challenges.

The Coca-Cola HBC Foundation was established in 2023 with the mission of supporting communities in the countries where the company operates by providing grants to non-governmental organizations in four main areas:

  • Community resilience, including disaster relief and recovery;
  • Sustainable access to safe drinking water;
  • Support for young people from vulnerable backgrounds.
  • Circular economy projects and initiatives.

Last year, the foundation funded several projects, including recovery initiatives following severe flooding in several countries. As part of its ongoing mission, the foundation's donations totaled €2.3 million to support local communities in Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Romania following devastating fires and floods, including restoring natural forests and building resilience through equipment and volunteer training.
