A project that helps reduce waste by cleaning Romania’s rivers
As part of its sustainability strategy, in 2021 the Dorna brand launched a project aimed at helping clean Romania’s rivers by installing devices that collect waste carried by river waters.
As part of its sustainability strategy, in 2021 the Dorna brand launched a project aimed at helping clean Romania’s rivers by installing devices that collect waste carried by river waters.
The collection systems remove waste from the water in a passive way: they require no energy or human intervention to function. They rely solely on wind and water currents that push floating waste toward special barriers that capture it. These systems are made from recycled plastic and can collect waste from the water surface down to a depth of one meter. The collected waste is then sent for sorting and recycling.
The campaign was implemented with the support of the non-governmental organization CSR Nest Romania, in partnership with the National Administration “Romanian Waters.” As part of the project, cleaning systems were installed on the Argeș, Jiu, Mureș, and Olt rivers, with the goal of helping ensure that the waters flowing into the Danube—and eventually into the Black Sea—are cleaner.
