H2O (Water): Helping To Obtain Water

H2O – Access to safe drinking water for rural communities in Dolj

Completed project
H2O (Water): Helping To Obtain Water #0

Project story

Completed in February 2020 and funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation through the New World Program, the project was implemented by the CSR Nest Association in partnership with Global Water Challenge (GWC) and the Mischii Commune City Hall in Dolj. It included the digging of four deep wells in three of the commune's five villages: one in Mischii, two in Călinești, and one in Gogoșești.

The project also included the construction of a 5 km mini-network for the distribution of drinking water in the community. The aim of the initiative was to increase access to drinking water from safe sources and to improve the management of water as a limited natural resource.

DRINKING WATER INFRASTRUCTURE AND LOCAL SUPPORT

As part of the project, the four wells dug in the commune are connected to a mini-network financed by the Mischii Commune Town Hall, which was subsequently extended by 1.5 km for each well to facilitate access to drinking water. This collaboration between the local administration and the organizations involved ensures minimum living conditions for the inhabitants of the area, who have faced limited access to clean water.

EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT

The project includes educational activities for the inhabitants of Mischii commune, promoting responsible water consumption and waste prevention, but also contributing to its conservation. The program targeted students from Alecsandru Nicolaid Secondary School and the entire community, highlighting the importance of water as a limited natural resource.
