Wash@Schools: Building a Better Life

Education, separate collection infrastructure, and improved sanitation and hygiene conditions

Completed project
Wash@Schools: Building a Better Life #0
Wash@Schools: Building a Better Life #1

Project story

In 2023, over 800 students in Prahova County benefited from access to renovated toilets and selective waste collection infrastructure through the WASH@Schools – Building a Better Life project, funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation as part of the New World Program and implemented by the CSR Nest Association. This initiative improved sanitary conditions for students in seven schools in rural communities: Colceag, Inotești, Gherghița, Provița de Sus, Valea Plopului, Cărbunești, and Cioceni.

MODERNIZATION AND SUSTAINABILITY

Each of the schools involved benefited from renovation works that included replacing toilets and sinks, repairing damaged tiles and changing non-functional doors.

To increase water efficiency, seven rainwater storage tanks with a capacity of 1,500 liters were installed in the schools, contributing to the sustainability of these institutions. At the same time, the schools received 40 sets of bins for collecting waste in two fractions – paper and plastic/metal – thus supporting the environmental education of students.

AWARENESS COMPONENT

Students participated in educational activities designed to familiarize them with the importance of hygiene and separate waste collection, and an information campaign was conducted in local communities to promote these practices. Beyond being an education project on hygiene and the environment, the mission of WASH@Schools – Building a Better Life was to instill responsible behaviors and healthy habits in the community, providing students and their families with the infrastructure necessary for a cleaner future.
